Obituary for Charles C. Gentile

Charles C. Gentile, 88, of Coatesville died peacefully Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Simpson Meadows, Downingtown.

Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Dominic and Anna Assetta Gentile and the husband of the late Helen Krupansky Gentile with whom he shared 57 years of marriage before her death in November 2006.

Charlie was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Coatesville.

He was a 1947 graduate of S. Horace Scott High School, where he received his Varsity letter in Baseball, Football, and Basketball. He also played Basketball for the LGM Clubmen of the YMCA Senior Basketball League, where he was awarded the trophy for Outstanding Player at their first annual All Sports dinner. Charlie was also a proud member of the GO Carlson bowling team, where he won many trophies. He was enthusiastic about being physically fit, a trait he passed on to his children. Affectionately known as “Charlie, Man of Steel”, he lifted weights until he was 80 years old.

Charlie also enjoyed hunting, fishing, summer days at the beach, and in his younger years, hanging out with the guys on “Teti’s corner.”

With his beloved Helen, he raised five children who miss him dearly. Charlie’s main focus in life was his family. He raised his children to be independent, compassionate people who treat everyone with respect and kindness. His children and grandchildren were his proudest accomplishments. Our father was a true gentleman and although we are heartbroken, we can take comfort in knowing that he has finally been reunited with our dear mother; together forever.

Charlie is survived by his children: Jeannette M. Kolb (Richard), Patricia A. Simone (Anthony), Dr. John C. Gentile (Charlene), Dr. Helen L. Gentile (Brad Bebensee), Loretta M. DePedro (Brant); 12 Grandchildren: Carissa Fischer, Claire Kolb Corti, Colin Kolb. Charles Kolb, Vincent Simone, Ryan Simone, Kasey Simone, John Gentile, Kathryn Gentile, James Gentile, Candace DePedro, Kelly DePedro; 6 great-granddaughters: Lily Fischer, Darby Fischer, Scilla Corti, Chloe Kolb, Natalie Kolb, Everly Kolb; sister, Marie Radziviliuk of Downingtown; brothers-in-law: Raymond Pawlowski and Paul Krupansky, and sister-in-law Anne McComsey.

The family extends our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Simpson Meadows for the many years of wonderful care they gave our father. Charlie became true friends with them. We are also grateful for the support he received from his friends at Compassionate Care Hospice during these past few months as he prepared to reunite with Helen.

Charlie’s funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 10:30am at Our Lady of the Rosary 80 S. 17th Avenue, Coatesville where family and friends may call from 9-10:15am.

Interment will be in Our Lady of Consolation Cemetery, Parkesburg.

Memorials in Charlie’s honor may be made to Bishop Shanahan High School 220 Woodbine Road, Downingtown, PA 19335 or the Simpson Meadows Gratuity Fund, 101 Plaza Drive, Downingtown, PA 19335.
