Obituary for Norman Alvin Sabin

Rev. Norman Alvin Sabin, 93, of Coatesville died Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Pocopson Home.

Born in Oswego, New York, he was the son of the late William Vinton and Gladys Ursula McCully Sabin and the husband of Elsie M. Hocking Sabin with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.

Norman served in the US Coast Guard during WWII, traveling across the Pacific and back twice.

Rev. Sabin was a member of Olivet United Methodist Church, Coatesville.

For 33 years, he was a United Methodist Minister serving in towns across Pennsylvania and New York, including: New London, PA, Valier, Frostburg and Hamilton, PA, Frewsbrug, NY, Brocton, NY, Alexander, NY, Colden, NY, West Winfield, NY, Cape Vincent and Three Mile Bay, NY, Nicholville and St. Regis Falls, NY, and retiring in Homer, East Homer, NY in 1988.

Norman loved spending his free time at his home, Hearts’ Haven in Lac Du Cerf, Quebec, Canada. He enjoyed spending time with his family and gardening.

In addition to his wife, Elsie, Norman is survived by his five children: Sarah Eby of Coatesville; Norman C. Sabin and his wife Margaret of Watford, North Dakota; Wesley Sabin of Glenwood, NY; H. William Sabin and his wife Denise of Warren, Michigan; and Miriam Stepniak and her husband Steven of Buffalo, NY; his foster son, Gregory Brown Hawk of Cleveland, OH; 16 grandchildren: Catherine, Jessica and Patrick Eby; Norman, Ashley, and Joni Lee Sabin; Vincent and Jacob Sabin; David Felicia, Audrey, Reginald, and Nathanael Sabin; and Michaela, Matthew and Blake Stepniak; and 4 great-grandchildren: Josue, Timothy, Josiah, and Achsa.

Norman was predeceased by his grandson, Ricky Eby and granddaughter, Heather Pochmara.

Interment will be in the Sabin Family Plot in Oswego, New York.
