Obituary for James A. Switzer

James A. Switzer, 86, of Chester Springs, died on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Neighborhood Hospice Inpatient Unit, West Chester. Born in Morgantown, WV, he was the son of the late George R. and Eva Meyer Switzer. He was the husband of Carolyn Hupp Switzer, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Jim was a graduate of Washington Irving High School, attended West Virginia Wesleyan, and graduated from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Chemistry. He was employed as a research chemist with Henkel Corporation. Prior to Henkel, Jim was a chemist at Pittsburgh Steel, Wheeling Steel, International Mill Service in Coatesville and Mathey Bishop. Jim was a member of Thorndale United Methodist Church, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge and was the Past Exalted Ruler BPOE Elks. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the Naval Aviation Air Cadets. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 4 children: Jeanne Sarmento (Peter); J. Allen Switzer, II (Donna DelRossi); Dee Ann Fey (Peter), and Robert Switzer (Kimberly Deyarmin) He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Seth Sarmento, Sgt. Ian Sarmento (Danie Olsen), Savannah Sarmento, Trey Switzer, Alexander Fey, Ashley Switzer and Chad Switzer, 1 great grandchild, Zane Peter Sarmento and many nieces and nephews. Visitation with family will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 beginning at 6 pm with a time of sharing at 8 pm at Wentz Funeral Home, 342 East Chestnut Street, Coatesville (610) 384-0318. Memorials in his honor may be made to Thorndale United Methodist Church, 3503 Lincoln Highway, Thorndale, PA 19372.
